Who Gets More Help? Homeless Drug Addict Or Homeless Father With His Sick Daughter?

We see homeless people almost every day. Most of the time, they’re just out there in the streets begging for food or money. If you are a decent human being, you may have even shared with them a bit of what you have.

Not everyone reacts the same way, though, when it comes to homeless individuals. Some are a little more judgmental about their condition, thinking that they probably brought the misery on themselves.

But who will you help if you are given the chance – a homeless addict or a homeless single father? The answer may seem pretty obvious but things didn’t exactly go as expected when YouTuber Coby Persin and his team conducted a social experiment in New York City. The experiment’s result was absolutely alarming.

Coby played two roles for this video.

On the first scenario, he dressed up as a homeless addict and held a sign that said:

Surprisingly, many people dropped money on his cup. One even commented “Stay high, man” while walking away.

Next, he posed on the same street with a child lying down on his lap, holding a sign that read:

What happened next was a real tearjerker as most pedestrians simply ignored him and his ‘daughter’ despite their dire circumstances.

Still, your faith in humanity will be restored as you watch what the last lady in the video does. She really went out of her way and helped the poor family beyond offering them some money.

The video immediately went viral and instantly earned more than 3 million views since being uploaded just last July 19, 2015.

It also ends with a very powerful message:

“Sometimes those who have less are the ones who give more.”

Hopefully, this experiment will inspire more people to help out the homeless. Personally, I think we all have responsibility towards it.

As Jan Schakowsky eloquently put:

“There is a lot that happens around the world we cannot control. We cannot stop earthquakes, we cannot prevent droughts, and we cannot prevent all conflict, but when we know where the hungry, the homeless and the sick exist, then we can help.”
