What’s the secret to living a long life? Experts actually have varied answers to this single question. A Harvard research, for example, tells us that intermittent fasting can be the key to longevity. On the other hand, a study by a team from the University of Exeter claims that smelling your partner’s fart can combat diseases.

Well if you ask Esmond Allcock, he’ll tell you all it takes is to have a good spouse. This Canadian man recently celebrated his 108th birthday and so he’s getting recognized as one of the oldest men in the country.

108-year-old Esmond Allcock says the key to a long life is having a good wife.

Esmond shared:

“I didn’t behave myself for a few years there, but then I got a really good wife.”

After 72 years of marriage, his dear wife Helen passed away seven years ago.

He stayed in the family home for a while before deciding to move into the Kerrobert Health Center. Employees threw him a birthday party to celebrate his long life.

He laughed about it, saying:

“Oh they nearly drove me nuts. They probably took 100 pictures of me.”

Town Mayor Wayne Mock was also present and even declared January 26 as Esmond Allcock Day to honor him.

Meanwhile, Esmond’s son Dale Allcock, 78, always takes time to stay in touch with his dad despite the distance. Since he lives in Port Coquitlam, B.C., he says they often use Facetime.

“We Facetime every day on his iPad and you can really tell how happy he is, and they treat him like gold in there.”

According to Dale, Esmond has lived in Kerrobert for 100 years and worked as a farmer before retiring in 1975.

He currently has 38 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.

“He really is a gift. That’s about all we can call that,” said Dale about his father.
