Now, don’t you fret. You’re not alone, you know. We’ve been wired by media to drink coffee early in the morning even if it’s incorrect.

You read that right. The optimal time to start drinking coffee is after you get to the office and not as soon as you wake up. Early in the morning, our bodies produce high levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, to help us stay alert. Caffeine early on will signal your body to lessen the production of cortisol. This is when your body starts to depend so much on coffee to stay alert and awake, rather than on your hormones.

The safest amount of caffeine that can be consumed by adults is 400mg only. TO go beyond this can result to an insomnia, jitters, restlessness, upset stomach, and irritability. Coffee at Seattle’s Best has around 45mg while a cup of Starbuck’s coffee has around 165mg.

Going to a convention or seminar? Instead of drinking coffee prior or during the event proper itself, it is ideal that you do it after. Studies show that 200mg of caffeine works best in boosting your memory.

Since caffeine is a stimulant, the shot you get from cup will boost your energy, increasing your productivity at work. The same can’t be said of creativity though. However, research studies show that working in a coffee shop may help aid creativity because of the moderate noise level.

Research shows that coffee drinkers have lower risk of premature death caused by diabetes, heart disease, stroke and neurological diseases such as Parkinson’s. For the benefits to kick in though, it’s important to take your coffee black. The addition of sugar, milk or cream will undermine the benefits because they add a lot of fat and calories which are unnecessary.
